In terms of digital storytelling, I prefer using Apple’s iLife suite of tools along with some of the products from Adobe to develop the materials. However, Microsoft has some solid points about the positive and engaging learning experiences that come from the use of digital storytelling within the classroom.

For me, digital storytelling:

  • Unleashes the creative powers of our students
  • Engages the students
  • Allows students to specialize on what they are passionate about (digital audio, video, animations, graphics, other) and to collaborate to create a group-based project
  • Allows students to create and participate (active learning)
  • Is a powerful communication mechanism (with the ability to enlist our emotions)
  • Has the potential — if well done — for more sticking power (i.e. we remember stories better than many other things)
