\nNew research shows that millions of us are “learning with AI” every week: what does this mean for how (and how well) humans learn?<\/em><\/p>\n

This week,\u00a0<\/span>an important piece of research<\/a>\u00a0landed that confirms the gravity of AI\u2019s role in the learning process.<\/span><\/strong> The TLDR is that learning is now a mainstream use case for ChatGPT; around 10.2% of all ChatGPT messages (that’s ~2BN messages sent by over 7 million users per week<\/strong><\/span>) are requests for help with learning.<\/p>\n

The research shows that about 10.2% of all messages are tutoring\/teaching, and within the \u201cPractical Guidance\u201d category, tutoring is 36%. \u201cAsking\u201d interactions are growing faster than \u201cDoing\u201d and are rated higher quality by users. Younger people contribute a huge share of messages, and growth is fastest in low- and middle-income countries (How People Use ChatGPT, 2025<\/a>).<\/p>\n

If AI is already acting as a global tutor, the question isn\u2019t \u201cwill people learn with AI?\u201d\u2014they already are. The\u00a0real<\/em>\u00a0question we need to ask is: what does great learning actually look like, and how should AI evolve to support it? That\u2019s where decades of learning science help us separate \u201cfeels like learning\u201d from \u201cactually gaining new knowledge and skills\u201d.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
