Markey, Jim McGovern, and Ayanna Pressley. <em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">This is a gifted article.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">When we met Ms. Ozturk in Basile, <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">she told us she feared for her life when she was taken off the streets of her neighborhood, not knowing who had grabbed her or where they were taking her. She said that at each step of her transit \u2014 from Massachusetts to New Hampshire to Vermont to Louisiana \u2014 her repeated requests to contact her lawyer were denied. Inside the detention center, she was inadequately fed, kept in facilities with extremely cold temperatures and denied personal necessities and religious accommodations. She suffered asthma attacks for which she lacked her prescribed medication.<\/span> <\/strong>Despite all this \u2014 and despite being far away from her loved ones \u2014 we were struck by her unwavering spirit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Why did the Trump administration target her? By all accounts, it\u2019s because she was one of the authors of\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tuftsdaily.com\/article\/2024\/03\/4ftk27sm6jkj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.tuftsdaily.com\/article\/2024\/03\/4ftk27sm6jkj&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1745704987584000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0Qs3UtnL2S46xHRbNaDKL_\">an opinion essay<\/a>\u00a0for The Tufts Daily criticizing her university\u2019s response to resolutions that the Tufts student senate passed regarding Israel and Gaza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>This is not immigration enforcement.
