In most cases, bondholders waived the violation. Some covenants could allow debtholders to accelerate repayment, which could add to an institution\u2019s liquidity and ratings risks.<\/li>\n<li>S&amp;P\u00a0downgraded ratings for about half the institutions with violations, typically because of underlying financial issues. \u201cWe see continued credit quality divergence in the U.S. higher education sector, with weaker-positioned institutions experiencing budgetary pressure and covenant violations,\u201d the analysts said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/02\/business\/student-loan-nonpayment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Student Loan Borrowers Owe $1.6 Trillion.
