Yesterday, when I  introduced NITLE\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nitle.org\/help\/digital_humanities.php\" target=\"_blank\">new initiative<\/a>,  I spent some time <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nitle.org\/2010\/09\/01\/2010\/08\/31\/nitle-launches-digital-humanities-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\">defining  digital humanities and digital scholarship<\/a>. Today, I\u2019ll take a  crack at the \u201cwhy now\u201d question, specifically for liberal arts colleges.  (Tomorrow, I\u2019ll explore why the digital humanities matter for liberal  arts colleges and offer some ways for those at small liberal arts  colleges to get involved and take action.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Why now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">So, why should we look at the digital humanities now, especially on  the small liberal arts college campus?  To answer this question, first  we must look at the larger context of higher education.
