Kathryn Schild, the lead instructional designer in faculty development and instructional support at the University of Alaska at Anchorage,\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1vwLD0MuqWZNA3vMs1vyShCOGeyQPlZ2NmXjDqxaXa3U\/edit#heading=h.zfugqbdcx2j0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\"><u>shared a guide<\/u><\/a>\u00a0she\u2019s compiled on holding asynchronous discussions, which includes a section on difficult topics.<\/p>\n<p>In an email, Schild also pulled out a few ideas she thought were particularly relevant to Le\u2019s question, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set the ground rules as a class. One way to do this is to share your draft rules in a collaborative document and ask students to annotate it and add suggestions.<\/li>\n<li>Plan to hold fewer difficult discussions than in a face-to-face class, and work on quality over quantity.
