More than 50 years of research compiled by the National Institutes of Health, and continued through further research, provides a clear picture of how skilled reading develops and of effective literacy instruction. These strategies and methods\u2014collectively called scientifically based reading instruction, which is grounded in the science of reading\u2014could dramatically reduce the rate of reading failure.
