Pew Research Center and Elon University\u2019s Imagining the Internet Center asked experts to share their insights on this; 540 technology innovators, developers, business and policy leaders, researchers, academics and activists responded. This action means it&#8217;s possible to affect the decisions that the AI makes in a way that is hard to track.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">By secretly altering the source information used to train\u00a0machine-learning algorithms, data-poisoning attacks have the potential to be extremely powerful because the AI will be learning from incorrect data and could make &#8216;wrong&#8217; decisions that\u00a0have significant consequences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pmarca.substack.com\/p\/why-ai-wont-cause-unemployment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Why AI Won&#8217;t Cause Unemployment<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from pmarca.substack.com by Marc Andreessen<\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpt:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Normally I would make the standard arguments against technologically-driven unemployment \u2014 see good summaries by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liberalstudies.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Economics-in-One-Lesson_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Henry Hazlitt (chapter 7)<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bastiat.org\/en\/petition.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Bastiat<\/a>\u00a0(his metaphor directly relevant to AI). And I will come back and make those arguments soon. But I don\u2019t even think the standand arguments are needed, since another problem will block the progress of AI across most of the economy first.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Which is: AI is already illegal for most of the economy, and will be for virtually all of the economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">How do I know that? Because technology is\u00a0<em>already<\/em>\u00a0illegal in most of the economy, and that is becoming steadily more true over time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">How do I know\u00a0<em>that?\u00a0<\/em>Because:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pmarca.substack.com\/p\/why-ai-wont-cause-unemployment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F975d2151-7def-45a4-8c52-878cf32d8c7b_1320x1424.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>And for me, it boils down to an inconvenient truth: What&#8217;s the state of our hearts and minds?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">AI, ChatGPT, Large Language Models (LLMs), and the like are <em>tools<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/03\/05\/ai-voice-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">How we use such tools varies upon what&#8217;s going on in our hearts and minds.<\/a> A fork can be used to eat food. It can also be used as a weapon. I don&#8217;t mean to be so blunt, but I can&#8217;t think of another way to say it right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Do we care about one another&#8230;really? <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Has capitalism gone astray? <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Have our hearts, our thinking, and\/or our mindsets gone astray? <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Do the products we create help or hurt others? It seems like too many times our perspective is, &#8220;We will sell <strong><em>whatever<\/em><\/strong> they will buy, regardless of its impact on others &#8212; as long as it makes us money and gives us the standard of living that we want.&#8221; Perhaps we could poll some former executives from Philip Morris on this topic.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Or we will develop this new technology <em><strong>because we can<\/strong><\/em> develop this new technology.
