{"id":6745,"date":"2010-06-30T09:17:57","date_gmt":"2010-06-30T13:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=6745"},"modified":"2010-06-30T09:27:37","modified_gmt":"2010-06-30T13:27:37","slug":"learning-in-the-21st-century-2010-trends-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2010\/06\/30\/learning-in-the-21st-century-2010-trends-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning in the 21st Century: 2010 Trends Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomorrow.org\/speakup\/learning21Report_2010_Update.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Learning in the 21st Century: 2010 Trends Update<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from Project Tomorrow<\/p>\n<p>Key trends highlighted in the report include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The number of high school students who are taking online  classes for school credit has almost doubled since Speak Up 2008. <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>While <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">the number of teachers who have taught online classes  has tripled since Speak Up 2008<\/span><\/strong>, we still have more work to do to help  teachers learn how to effectively leverage online learning to drive  student achievement and increase their own productivity.<\/li>\n<li>Even as aspiring teachers are gaining experience with online  classes and online professional learning communities as part of their  teacher preparation programs, <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">only 4 percent report that they are  learning how to teach online classes in their instructional methods  courses. <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Administrators are beginning to shift their focus on online  learning from professional development for teachers to online classes  for students.<\/li>\n<li>Thirty-three percent of parents report they have taken an  online class for their own professional needs or personal interests.
