Luke Chapter 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\">For those of you who celebrated it, I hope that you had a great Easter! The scripture below speaks to one of the things that Christians hold dear &#8211; i.e., that the tomb was empty. So glad that it was<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"passage-display\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+24&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span class=\"passage-display-bcv\">Luke 24<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"passage-display-version\">New International Version (NIV)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span id=\"en-NIV-25993\" class=\"text Luke-24-1\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\">Jesus Has Risen<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"text Luke-24-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">24\u00a0<\/span>On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared\u00a0and went to the tomb.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-25994\" class=\"text Luke-24-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-25995\" class=\"text Luke-24-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-25996\" class=\"text Luke-24-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning\u00a0stood beside them.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-25997\" class=\"text Luke-24-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, \u201cWhy do you look for the living among the dead?<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-25998\" class=\"text Luke-24-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-25999\" class=\"text Luke-24-7\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>\u2018The Son of Man\u00a0must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.\u2019<\/span>\u00a0\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26000\" class=\"text Luke-24-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>Then they remembered his words.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26001\" class=\"text Luke-24-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26002\" class=\"text Luke-24-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them\u00a0who told this to the apostles.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26003\" class=\"text Luke-24-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>But they did not believe\u00a0the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26004\" class=\"text Luke-24-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves,\u00a0and he went away,\u00a0wondering to himself what had happened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span id=\"en-NIV-26005\" class=\"text Luke-24-13\">On the Road to Emmaus<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"text Luke-24-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles<sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; position: relative; vertical-align: top; top: 0px;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NIV-26005a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NIV-26005a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+24&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-26005a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0from Jerusalem.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26006\" class=\"text Luke-24-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26007\" class=\"text Luke-24-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26008\" class=\"text Luke-24-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>but they were kept from recognizing him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26009\" class=\"text Luke-24-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>He asked them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cWhat are you discussing together as you walk along?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Luke-24-17\">They stood still, their faces downcast.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26010\" class=\"text Luke-24-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>One of them, named Cleopas,asked him, \u201cAre you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26011\" class=\"text Luke-24-19\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhat things?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0he asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Luke-24-19\">\u201cAbout Jesus of Nazareth,\u201d\u00a0they replied. \u201cHe was a prophet,\u00a0powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26012\" class=\"text Luke-24-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>The chief priests and our rulers\u00a0handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26013\" class=\"text Luke-24-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.\u00a0And what is more, it is the third day\u00a0since all this took place.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26014\" class=\"text Luke-24-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>In addition, some of our women amazed us.\u00a0They went to the tomb early this morning<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26015\" class=\"text Luke-24-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>but didn\u2019t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26016\" class=\"text Luke-24-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26017\" class=\"text Luke-24-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>He said to them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cHow foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26018\" class=\"text Luke-24-26\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26019\" class=\"text Luke-24-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>And beginning with Moses\u00a0and all the Prophets,\u00a0he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26020\" class=\"text Luke-24-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26021\" class=\"text Luke-24-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>But they urged him strongly, \u201cStay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.\u201d So he went in to stay with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26022\" class=\"text Luke-24-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it\u00a0and began to give it to them.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26023\" class=\"text Luke-24-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,\u00a0and he disappeared from their sight.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26024\" class=\"text Luke-24-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>They asked each other, \u201cWere not our hearts burning within us\u00a0while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures\u00a0to us?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26025\" class=\"text Luke-24-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26026\" class=\"text Luke-24-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>and saying, \u201cIt is true! The Lord\u00a0has risen and has appeared to Simon.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26027\" class=\"text Luke-24-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span id=\"en-NIV-26028\" class=\"text Luke-24-36\">Jesus Appears to the Disciples<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"text Luke-24-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cPeace be with you.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26029\" class=\"text Luke-24-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26030\" class=\"text Luke-24-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>He said to them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cWhy are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26031\" class=\"text Luke-24-39\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see;\u00a0a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26032\" class=\"text Luke-24-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup>When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26033\" class=\"text Luke-24-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cDo you have anything here to eat?\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26034\" class=\"text Luke-24-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup>They gave him a piece of broiled fish,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26035\" class=\"text Luke-24-43\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup>and he took it and ate it in their presence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26036\" class=\"text Luke-24-44\"><sup class=\"versenum\">44\u00a0<\/sup>He said to them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cThis is what I told you while I was still with you:Everything must be fulfilled\u00a0that is written about me in the Law of Moses,\u00a0the Prophets\u00a0and the Psalms.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-26037\" class=\"text Luke-24-45\"><sup class=\"versenum\">45\u00a0<\/sup>Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.<\/span><span id=\"en-NIV-26038\" class=\"text Luke-24-46\"><sup class=\"versenum\">46\u00a0<\/sup>He told them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cThis is what is written: The Messiah will suffer\u00a0and rise from the dead on the third day,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26039\" class=\"text Luke-24-47\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">47\u00a0<\/sup>and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name\u00a0to all nations,\u00a0beginning at Jerusalem.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NIV-26040\" class=\"text Luke-24-48\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">48\u00a0<\/sup>You are witnesses\u00a0of these things.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26041\" class=\"text Luke-24-49\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">49\u00a0<\/sup>I am going to send you what my Father has promised;\u00a0but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span id=\"en-NIV-26042\" class=\"text Luke-24-50\">The Ascension of Jesus<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"text Luke-24-50\"><sup class=\"versenum\">50\u00a0<\/sup>When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany,\u00a0he lifted up his hands and blessed them.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26043\" class=\"text Luke-24-51\"><sup class=\"versenum\">51\u00a0<\/sup>While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26044\" class=\"text Luke-24-52\"><sup class=\"versenum\">52\u00a0<\/sup>Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-26045\" class=\"text Luke-24-53\"><sup class=\"versenum\">53\u00a0<\/sup>And they stayed continually at the temple,praising God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From DSC: For those of you who celebrated it, I hope that you had a great Easter!
