[Christian]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/campustechnology.com\/articles\/2017\/07\/24\/major-coding-bootcamps-going-out-of-business.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Major Coding Bootcamps Going Out of Business<\/a> <\/strong>&#8212; from campustechnology.com by Sri Ravipati<\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpt:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In a surprising turn of events, two major coding bootcamps, within the span of about a week, have announced they are shutting down all operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Most recently, after a four-year run, South Carolina-based <a href=\"https:\/\/theironyard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Iron Yard<\/a> (TIY) revealed last Friday it would close its 15 campuses, including locations like Atlanta, Austin, Houston and Charleston where other coding bootcamps are flourishing.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nSimilarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/devbootcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dev Bootcamp<\/a> (DBC) on July 12 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/devbootcamp\/posts\/1453888288004252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced via Facebook<\/a> that it would shutdown operations at all six locations \u2014 Austin, Chicago, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and New York \u2014 by the end of the summer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\">I can almost hear the snickering from a variety of people within higher education about this situation. <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">If gloating had an audible sound associated with it, I&#8217;d likely have to go find some earplugs. But I have a message for those who are snickering and gloating right now &#8212; saying something along the lines of, &#8220;Ha! So much for these <em>alternatives<\/em> to traditional higher education! <em>They&#8217;re nothing, and they&#8217;ll come to nothing!&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">That may be so. Such relatively new alternatives to traditional institutions of higher education <em>may<\/em> come to nothing. <strong>But you know what? At least those organizations are trying to be much more <em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">responsive<\/span><\/em> than many institutions of traditional higher education are being!<\/strong> They&#8217;ve recognized that there are unmet needs &#8212; gaps, if you will &#8212; arising from our current systems. Gaps in either the <em>content<\/em> that we&#8217;re providing and\/or the <em>manner<\/em> in which we&#8217;re providing it. Gaps that thousands of students have signed up for in a relatively short time. <em><strong>Those gaps should be cause for <\/strong><\/em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>action<\/strong><\/span><em><strong> within traditional institutions of higher education.<\/strong><\/em> <em><strong>They should be cause for realizing that <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">we aren&#8217;t responding <\/span><\/strong><\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">nearly<\/span><\/strong><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"> fast enough to today&#8217;s <\/span><\/strong><\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">new<\/span><\/strong><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"> pace of change.<\/span><\/strong> <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The pace of change has changed. It is lightning fast these days. Don&#8217;t believe me? Go check out some of the descriptions for the hot jobs out there these days. Seriously. Go do it. Go find out which skills you need to get your foot in the door to acquire those types of positions. It&#8217;ll blow your mind!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">And there are ramifications to this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">If our accreditation systems need to change, than so be it. Let&#8217;s identify those necessary changes and make &#8217;em happen! <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Because:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><em>WE<\/em> have some serious responsibility for the educations that we are providing to this next generation!!!\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>WE<\/em> need to prepare them for what they&#8217;ll need to be marketable in the future &#8212; so that they can put bread and butter on their tables throughout their careers. <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>WE<\/em> need to act! <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>WE<\/em> need to be responsive!<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>This is <em>not<\/em> a time for <em>gloating<\/em>.
