Additionally, the publication recommends that colleges and universities establish productive collaborations with industry, government, and libraries to provide students with access to the latest technologies and tools.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nBased on the variety and complexity of these results, NMC cannot identify just one model of digital literacy. Instead three different digital literacies are now evident, each with distinct standards, potential curriculum, and implications for creative educators.<\/p>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"299.190528\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmc.org\/news\/nmc-releases-horizon-project-strategic-brief-on-digital-literacy\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-57297\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DigitalLits-NMC-Oct2016.jpg\" alt=\"digitallits-nmc-oct2016\" width=\"576\" height=\"527\" border=\"0\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DigitalLits-NMC-Oct2016.jpg 576w, https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DigitalLits-NMC-Oct2016-150x137.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>The aim of this publication is to establish a shared vision of digital literacy for higher education leaders by illuminating key definitions and models along with best practices and recommendations for implementing successful digital literacy initiatives.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>To be digitally literate, you need to be:<br \/>\nfluent at critical thinking, <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>collaborating,<br \/>\nbeing creative, and <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>problem-solving in<br \/>\ndigital environments.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Computer science and digital media classes can instruct on everything from office productivity applications to programming and video editing, for example.\u00a0 Sociology courses can teach interpersonal actions online, such as the ethics and politics of social network interaction, <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>while psychology and business classes can focus on computer-mediated human interaction. Government and political science classes are clearly well equipped to explore the intersection of digital technology and citizenship mentioned above. Communication, writing, and\u00a0 literature classes have the capacity to instruct students on producing digital content in the form of stories, arguments, personal expression, posters, and more.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> If faculty members aren&#8217;t asking students to create multimedia in their assignments and\/or take part in online\/digitally-based means of communications and learning, the vast majority of the students won&#8217;t (and don&#8217;t) care about digital literacy&#8230;it&#8217;s simply not relevant to them: &#8220;Whatever gets me the grade, that&#8217;s what I&#8217;ll do. But no more.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">This type of situation\/perspective is quite costly.\u00a0 Because once students graduate from college, had they built up some solid digital literacy &#8212; especially the &#8220;creative literacy&#8221; mentioned above &#8212; they would be in much better shape to get solid jobs, and prosper at those jobs. They would be much better able to craft <em>powerful<\/em> communications &#8212; and reach a <em>global<\/em> audience in doing so.
