She says IBM is on track to meet her promise to investors,\u00a0made last year, of hitting $40 billion worth of revenue in a bunch of new and more profitable markets by 2018.<\/p>\n

These include big data\/analytics, cloud computing, security, social and mobile.<\/strong> <\/span>The company has already hit\u00a0$29 billion in these “strategic imperative” areas, and they are now\u00a036% of IBM’s\u00a0$82 billion of revenue, she said.<\/p>\n

These new markets, which IBM calls “decision support” represent a $2 trillion market.\u00a0Plus\u00a0IBM sees a bunch of other growth markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Machine learning\u00a0(which IBM calls ‘cognitive computing”)\u00a0is at the heart of the\u00a0$2 trillion market IBM sees developing by 2025<\/strong>.\u00a0This is where smart computers that can learn, can understand all kinds of data (even audio, photos, videos), reason, talk, make decisions and learn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Companies will use this to make all of their important decisions she believes. And it will be used to solve other problems like managing and curing illness.\u00a0Watson is already being used by medical\u00a0device manufacturer Medtronic to help patients predict dangerous low-blood sugar events\u00a0up to two hours before they occur.<\/p>\n
