They personalize learning in <a href=\"http:\/\/gettingsmart.com\/2014\/06\/moving-towards-next-generation-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\">blended and competency-based environments<\/a>. These models revolve around students and learning, rather than teachers and direct instruction as the primary pedagogy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We\u2019ve chronicled the development of next-gen schools (<a href=\"http:\/\/gettingsmart.com\/publication\/getting-smart-on-regional-next-gen-school-design\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gettingsmart.com\/publication\/getting-smart-on-regional-next-gen-school-design\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) and see hundreds of districts and networks adopting next-gen strategies. We\u2019re optimistic that broader adoption of these strategies will produce better student outcomes. Following are 10 examples of next-gen learning in K-12.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">These examples are not single course innovations, they are engineered solutions. The first half are districts or networks; the other half are schoolwide models. <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">There are<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/gettingsmart.com\/2014\/11\/100-schools-worth-visiting\/\" target=\"_blank\">hundreds of examples<\/a> <span style=\"color: #800000;\">and they have big implications for HigherEd.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>We see 10 implications for HigherEd; <\/strong>some directly as a result of next-gen models, some resulting from next-gen policies, some from EdTech and consumer variables impacting both K-12 and HigherEd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\">I post this valuable item from Tom Vander Ark because <strong>I&#8217;m constantly shouting &#8220;Heads up!&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;Heads-up!&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0 I shout it to those of us working within higher education, and I shout it to those working within the corporate world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Because those of us working within higher education operate in a continuum &#8212; and so do you working within the corporate world (especially those of you working within corporate training and corporate universities, as well as those of you producing elearning-based materials). <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What happens in the prior stages of a student&#8217;s\/employee&#8217;s life directly impacts us\/you.\u00a0 <em>Expectations<\/em> are at play here; from educationdive.com by Roger Riddell<br \/>\n<em>Jaime Casap says schools aren&#8217;t broken, but they do need to adapt<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpt:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">While that topic was certainly touched on during Casap&#8217;s keynote at Educause, the issue at hand on Thursday was a much more generational one. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The discussion was, after all, titled\u00a0&#8220;The Digitally Native Generation Z Is Going to College: Are You Ready?&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&#8220;There&#8217;s a\u00a0generation of students coming to college that are a little bit different from the ones that they&#8217;re used to, and they&#8217;re learning in a different way,&#8221;
