By shaking up our long-held assumptions about how and why the system works, we can improve it.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Potential questions:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What are the basic tenets of capitalism?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How is it taught?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What are the main points that the authors want you to grapple with?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Do you agree or disagree with their main points?\u00a0 If so, why?\u00a0 Do you have some resources that back up your viewpoints?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What are <em>your<\/em> views on capitalism and what it should achieve?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Do robotics, algorithms, and automation impact any of your arguments\/perspectives?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpt:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>What problems do you solve?<\/strong><br \/>\nOnce we understand that the <em>solutions<\/em> capitalism produces are what creates real prosperity in people\u2019s lives, and that the <em>rate<\/em> at which we create solutions is true economic growth, then it becomes obvious that entrepreneurs and business leaders bear a major part of both the credit <em>and<\/em> the responsibility for creating societal prosperity. But standard measures of business\u2019s contribution\u2014profits, growth rates, and shareholder value\u2014are poor proxies. Businesses contribute to society by creating and making available products and services that improve people\u2019s lives in tangible ways, while simultaneously providing employment that enables people to afford the products and services of other businesses. It sounds basic, and it is, but our economic theories and metrics don\u2019t frame things this way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Today our culture celebrates money and wealth as the benchmarks of success. This has been reinforced by the prevailing theory. <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Suppose that instead we celebrated innovative solutions to human problems.
