{"id":468,"date":"2010-01-27T08:43:01","date_gmt":"2010-01-27T13:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=468"},"modified":"2010-01-27T18:59:09","modified_gmt":"2010-01-27T23:59:09","slug":"some-thoughts-from-kirkpatricks-4-levels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2010\/01\/27\/some-thoughts-from-kirkpatricks-4-levels\/","title":{"rendered":"Some thoughts from Kirkpatricks&#8217; 4 Levels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I need to catch up to many of you out there&#8230;but while reading Kirkpatricks&#8217; <em>Evaluating training programs: The four levels (3rd ed.) <\/em>last night, I had the following thoughts:<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>4 Levels:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reaction <span style=\"color: #800000;\">&lt;&#8211; Hypothesis from DSC: K-12 and college\/university students\u2019 initial reactions will become immediately more positive if technology is used in effective, engaging ways. Start with a format\/media\/technique\/game\/simulation that interests the students the most about that topic (even if this &#8220;hook&#8221; is not going to be the focus of what you will be covering the majority of the time).<\/span><\/strong> For as the Kirkpatricks state on p. 22, &#8220;<strong>Positive reaction may not ensure learning, but negative reaction almost certainly reduces the possibility of its occurring<\/strong>&#8221; (p. 22).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learning<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Behavior <\/strong>&lt;&#8211; In order for change to occur, four conditions are necessary:\n<ul>\n<li>The person must have <strong>a desire to change<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The person must <strong>know what to do and how to do it<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The person must work in the<strong> right climate <\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&lt;&#8211; speaks to job families in business world<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The person must be <strong>rewarded for changing <\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&lt;&#8211; speaks to<strong> incentive systems<\/strong>. <strong>How can we build some powerful incentive systems for students?<\/strong> Perhaps use an online system whereby if the student successfully completes the learning objectives, they get whatever they want up to $_____ off of their tuition, or perhaps an iTunes gift certificate for K-12ers. Perhaps Apple and company would be willing to donate ___ songs or the Gates Foundation put forth $___ as a reward system here. Or perhaps if they meet ___ objectives, they earn the right to take another elective within a discipline that they are passionate about.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Results<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kirkpatrick, D.
