And other questions that come to my mind."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>From DSC:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\">The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetakeyourclass.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">wetakeyourclass.com<\/a><\/strong> website below is very disturbing in terms of the questions it raises &#8212; though such questions and activities are certainly <em>not limited<\/em> to what occurs in the online classroom, as evidenced by<\/span> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.com\/article\/The-Shadow-Scholar\/125329\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Shadow Scholar<\/a> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">(from The Chronicle by Ed Dante) where a man confessed to writing ~5,000 scholarly papers for students, including grad students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Questions:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Should the owners of this site go to jail? Or is this just capitalism gone awry?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Does this business make a profit?\u00a0 If so, why and what does that say?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Is this type of thing happening for just a handful of people out there? How would we know?\u00a0 Can the turnitin.com&#8217;s of the world detect\/stop this?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">If their services are in demand, should that inform or influence any differences in the strategies or pedagogies we utilize within higher education?\u00a0 Do we need to re-evaluate what&#8217;s really being achieved and not achieved?<\/span> That is, if employers didn&#8217;t look to a college degree, would students come to learn anyway or would they be gone by morning?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What, if anything, does it say about students&#8217; ethics?\u00a0 Matters of the heart?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetakeyourclass.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32530 aligncenter\" title=\"WeTakeYourClassDotCom-Sept2012\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/WeTakeYourClassDotCom-Sept2012.jpg\" alt=\"WE take your class dot com -- should these people go to jail?\" width=\"584\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/WeTakeYourClassDotCom-Sept2012.jpg 584w, https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/WeTakeYourClassDotCom-Sept2012-150x91.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Look at some of the &#8220;services,&#8221; &#8220;benefits,&#8221; and messages being offered therein:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>We take your online classes for you and you get an A <\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Underlying message: We&#8217;ll help you get that piece of paper so you can move on to what <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">really<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> counts.<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0<\/span><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em> (Don&#8217;t worry about not knowing anything&#8230;you won&#8217;t have to prove yourself later on&#8230;and never mind about your work ethic, this is a one-time-cutting-the-corners type of decision, right? Isn&#8217;t it?
