After  all, it runs on iOS software, so the underpinnings of app support are  already present. But Apple hasn\u2019t opened up the Apple TV to third-party  developers; or at least it hadn\u2019t before it <a title=\"iOS 5 cuts the cord and gets social with iMessage and\u00a0Twitter\" href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/apple\/ios-5-cuts-the-cord-and-gets-social-with-imessage-and-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\">unveiled iOS 5 on Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iOS 5 doesn\u2019t bring native support for apps on the Apple TV, <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">but it does  introduce <span style=\"color: #008000;\">AirPlay <\/span>Mirroring for the iPad 2.<\/span><\/strong> Mirroring is a feature that  was introduced alongside the iPad 2. <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">It allowed users to display  exactly what was on their tablet on an external display, too, <\/span><\/strong>using the  Digital AV Adapter Apple released that provides an HDMI connection for  video and audio out. When it was announced, I said the <a title=\"The iPad 2?s Killer Feature Is HD\u00a0Mirroring\" href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/apple\/the-ipad-2s-killer-feature-is-hd-mirroring\/\">mirroring ability was the iPad 2&#8217;s killer feature<\/a>.
