from FastCompany.com by Austin Carr<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><cite><\/cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/1741855\/blockbusters-largest-shareholder-calls-blockbuster-worst-investment-ever-made\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/images.fastcompany.com\/upload\/620-blockbuster-end-of-the-world.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">After years as Blockbuster&#8217;s largest shareholder, Carl Icahn, who at one point amassed some 17 million shares of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>the now-bankrupt company<\/strong><\/span>, has called Blockbuster &#8220;the worst investment I ever made.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.forbes.com\/stevenbertoni\/2011\/03\/21\/billionaire-carl-icahn-calls-blockbuster-his-worst-investment-ever\/\" target=\"_blank\">candid piece<\/a> written for the <em>Harvard Business Review<\/em>, Icahn opens up about the rental giant&#8217;s struggles and failures in an ever-changing industry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&#8220;[Blockbuster] failed<\/span><\/strong> because of too much debt and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>changes in the  industry.<\/strong><\/span> It had too many stores,<strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Netflix created a better<\/span> <span style=\"color: #800000;\">business  model, <\/span><\/strong>and<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong> then Redbox kiosks and the whole digital phenomenon  eliminated the need for consumers to go to a separate DVD store<\/strong><\/span>,&#8221; Icahn  wrote. &#8220;Maybe the board did make a mistake in picking Jim Keyes as  [John] Antioco\u2019s successor\u2014<span style=\"color: #800000;\">Keyes knows retailing and did an excellent  job with the stores, but<em> <\/em><strong><em>he isn\u2019t a digital guy.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>From DSC:<\/strong><br \/>\nI write about Blockbuster &#8212;
