When information has shrinking half-lives?\" width=\"575\" height=\"288\" border=\"0\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/streams-of-content.jpg 575w, https:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/streams-of-content-150x75.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>From DSC:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> After looking at some items concerning Connectivism<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">*<\/span><\/strong>, I&#8217;ve been reflecting upon the following questions: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>What&#8217;s the best way for us to dip our feet into the<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <em>constantly moving streams of content?<\/em><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(No matter the topic or discipline, the streams continue to flow.)<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What&#8217;s the optimal setup for K-12 based &#8220;courses&#8221;?<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What&#8217;s the optimal setup for &#8220;courses&#8221; within higher education?<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How should L&amp;D departments deal with this phenomenon?<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How do publishers and textbook authors want to address this situation?<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Thinking of Gonzalez (2004; as cited in Siemens (2005)) description of the challenges of rapidly diminishing knowledge life:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOne of the most persuasive factors is the shrinking half-life of knowledge. The \u201chalf-life of knowledge\u201d is the time span from when knowledge is gained to when it becomes obsolete. Half of what is known today was not known 10 years ago. The amount of knowledge in the world has doubled in the past 10 years and is doubling every 18 months according to the American Society of Training and Documentation (ASTD).
