Psalm 116:1-2<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

1 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
\nhe heard my cry for mercy.
\n2 Because he turned his ear to me,
\nI will call on him as long as I live.<\/p>\n

Romans 12:4-5<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.<\/p>\n

\nI remember several times in my career thinking — no…wishing — I had more skills or capabilities than what I possessed. I was trying to make significant contributions, and I didn’t have all the skills to carry out my ideas. But I was likely too ambitious in my younger days. I was taught to be that way from the start. But primarily it came from my background as an athlete — where I was taught to compete<\/em> with other people. Not to be in relationships with them, but to compete against them.<\/em> (Legions of athletes are currently in the same boat, I’m sure. That’s how we were taught to be. That’s often how competition works.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So when a pastor told us a while back, “It’s not about you!” — that sounded shocking and confusing to my selfish, ambitious self. “You’re kidding me!,” I’m sure I felt and thought.<\/span><\/p>\n

Romans 12:4-5 lets us know that we each have our God-given gifts and abilities — but no one person on this Earth has all<\/em> of the gifts and abilities out there. We each play our role. Like the body, we each have different purposes and functions. It’s humbling. And it’s relational.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ephesians 2:10<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

For we are God\u2019s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.<\/p>\n

Isaiah 46:4\u00a0 <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.<\/p>\n
