\nExperts say a major labor shortage looms because of population shifts and a mismatch between new graduates\u2019 skills and employers\u2019 needs.<\/em><\/p>\n

Recent college graduates complain they can\u2019t\u00a0find entry-level jobs<\/a> because artificial intelligence is taking over.<\/p>\n

Yet, tech recruiter Matt Walsh and other experts say the growth of AI and the struggle to find entry-level work mask a bigger problem: The United States is facing what\u2019s projected to become the largest labor shortage in its history.<\/p>\n

In sectors such as semiconductor production, the problem isn\u2019t AI or too few jobs, said Walsh, CEO of the Phoenix-based search firm Blue Signal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous,\u201d he said. \u201cThere just aren\u2019t enough people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Economists warn that the worsening labor problem, due in part to a skills shortage and population shifts, will be vast and reach beyond tech.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Among the trends that have been leading to this moment: a mismatch between the careers college graduates are pursuing and the jobs employers are struggling to fill. Far fewer students are majoring in health care fields than are needed to meet demand, for instance.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have pumped so many young people into business and finance\u201d when what\u2019s really in demand are graduates in other fields, Hetrick said. \u201cIt\u2019s like a factory producing these workers like widgets, even though society is saying, \u2018We really don\u2019t need them.\u2019 And the factory just keeps pumping them out.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
