They are rarely prepared to do this, and as a result, nearly half (45%) report no earnings within the first year of their release, according to research from the\u00a0Brookings Institution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Big Idea:<\/strong>\u00a0Reducing those barriers has become an\u00a0increasing focus\u00a0for a\u00a0number\u00a0of\u00a0philanthropies\u00a0and\u00a0colleges. It\u2019s also a growing labor market imperative.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>There\u2019s also an incentive for many states to help this population of potential workers land jobs.
