How do I convey the genuine value of thinking when the cultural message of the moment is the opposite?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">If higher education is to have any meaningful future at all, we have to find real answers to this question.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">So, for a long time, I\u2019ve been lamenting that we don\u2019t talk enough with students about the\u00a0<em>value<\/em>\u00a0of work in our disciplines. We should devote more time to exploring how this knowledge operates in the real world! We should explicitly communicate its benefits not only for students\u2019 future professional lives but also for their personal lives, and for the world at large! We should give them a\u00a0<\/span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC4643833\/\" rel=\"\">self-transcendent\u00a0purpose for learning<\/a><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">!
