Even before Pelkey\u2019s family used AI to give him a voice for the victim impact portion \u2014 believed to be a first in U.S. courts \u2014 the Arizona Supreme Court created a committee that researches best AI practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In Florida, a judge recently donned a virtual reality headset meant to show the point of view of a defendant who said he was acting in self-defense when he waved a loaded gun at wedding guests. The judge rejected his claim.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Experts say using AI in courtrooms raises legal and ethical concerns, especially if it\u2019s used effectively to sway a judge or jury. An overwhelming majority see Big Law as \u201cexpensive\u201d, \u201celitist\u201d or \u201cintimidating\u201d but only 30% of respondents would allow a robot lawyer \u2014 that is, an AI system acting alone \u2014 to represent them in a legal matter.
