{"id":9435,"date":"2010-09-20T14:11:04","date_gmt":"2010-09-20T18:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=9435"},"modified":"2010-09-20T14:11:16","modified_gmt":"2010-09-20T18:11:16","slug":"watch-out-for-the-digital-trees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2010\/09\/20\/watch-out-for-the-digital-trees\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch out for the digital trees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.odysseyware.com\/blog\/watch-out-for-the-digital-trees\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Watch out for the digital trees<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from odysseyware.com<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For the first time ever, iNACOL (International Association for K-12  Online Learning) teamed up with the SREB (Southern Regional Education  Board) to honor an \u201coutstanding online teacher for exceptional  contributions to online K-12 education as the nation\u2019s K-12 Online  Teacher of the Year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Teresa Dove, a Virginia math teacher, was chosen from more than 50  nominations of online educators in public schools and state virtual  schools nationwide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Dove said after receiving the award that teaching online allows her  to spend much more time working individually with students than she did  previously in a traditional classroom. Spending only a moment with  students in a traditional classroom is \u201cnot enough, and our kids deserve  better,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">What struck me most about this award, was the advice Dove offered to  online teachers as reported in an article from eClassroom News. When asked about her success, she didn\u2019t talk  about technology or the way to deliver information in an online format.  She didn\u2019t talk about how to create lessons that \u201ctranslate\u201d in the  digital format.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">She offered five lessons \u2013 practices \u2013 that make her effective.
