Thank you so much for your patience through this.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 OpenAI (@OpenAI) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OpenAI\/status\/1727206187077370115?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 22, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The C-Suites (i.e., the Chief Executive Officers, Chief Financial Officers, Chief Operating Officers, and the like) of companies like OpenAI, Alphabet (Google), Meta (Facebook), Microsoft, Netflix, NVIDIA, Amazon, Apple, and a handful of others have enormous power. Why? Because of the enormous power and reach of the technologies that they create, market, and provide.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>We need to be praying for the hearts of those in the C-Suites of these powerful vendors &#8212; as well as for their Boards. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>LORD, grant them wisdom<\/em> and help <em>mold their hearts and perspectives so that they truly care about others.<\/em> May their decisions not be based on making money alone&#8230;or doing something just because they can.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>What happens in their hearts and minds DOES and WILL continue to impact the rest of us. And we&#8217;re talking about real ramifications here. This isn&#8217;t pie-in-the-sky thinking or ideas. This is for real. With real consequences.<\/strong> If you doubt that, go ask the families of those whose sons and daughters took their own lives due to what happened out on social media platforms. <em>Disclosure: I use LinkedIn and Twitter quite a bit. I&#8217;m not bashing these platforms per se. But my point is that there are real impacts due to a variety of technologies. What goes on in the hearts and minds of the leaders of these tech companies matters.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Some relevant items:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.implications.com\/p\/navigating-attention-driving-algorithms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Navigating Attention-Driving Algorithms, Capturing the Premium of Proximity for Virtual Teams, &amp; New AI Devices<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from implactions.com by Scott Belsky<\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpts<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> (emphasis DSC):<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">No doubt, technology influences us in many ways we don\u2019t fully understand.<\/span><\/strong> But one area where valid concerns run rampant is the <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">attention-seeking algorithms<\/span> <\/strong>powering the news and media we consume on modern platforms that efficiently polarize people. Perhaps we\u2019ll call it\u00a0<em><strong>The Law of Anger Expansion: When people are angry in the age of algorithms, they become MORE angry and LESS discriminate about who and what they are angry at.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Algorithms that optimize for grabbing attention, thanks to AI, ultimately drive polarization.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nThe AI learns quickly that a rational or \u201cboth sides\u201d view is less likely to sustain your attention (so you won\u2019t get many of those, which drives the sensation that more of the world agrees with you). But the rage-inducing stuff keeps us swiping.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.implications.com\/p\/navigating-attention-driving-algorithms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Feb805a54-07bb-43b1-b32e-3220df242447_2732x2048.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Our feeds are being sourced in ways that dramatically change the content we\u2019re exposed to.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>And then these algorithms expand on these ultimately destructive emotions \u2013 \u201cIf you\u2019re afraid of this, maybe you should also be afraid of this\u201d or \u201cIf you hate those people, maybe you should also hate these people.\u201d<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nHow do we know when we\u2019ve been polarized?\u00a0This is the most important question of the day.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nWhatever is inflaming you is likely an algorithm-driven expansion of anger and an imbalance of context.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From DSC: The recent drama over at OpenAI reminds me of how important a few individuals are in influencing the lives of millions of people.
