[Christian]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.highereddive.com\/news\/aba-cleans-up-accreditation-rules-surrounding-distance-education-for-law-sc\/630870\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>ABA cleans up accreditation rules surrounding distance education for law schools<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from highereddive.com by Lilah Burke<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dive Brief <\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">(emphasis DSC):<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recent amendments to American Bar Association accreditation standards addressed definitions of distance education, but Leo Martinez, immediate past chair of the ABA Council for the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>says the resolution won\u2019t change much for law schools without waivers allowing them to conduct extra distance education.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>The changes, made at the ABA\u2019s annual meeting in August, were meant to clarify language in accreditation standards.<\/li>\n<li>The ABA, which serves as the accreditor for 199 law schools and programs, <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">requires waivers for institutions that want to offer more than one-third of J.D. program credits online.<\/span> <\/strong>But it remains interested in reviewing distance education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>From DSC:<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>For an industry in the 21st century whose main accreditation\/governance body for law schools still won\u2019t let more online learning occur without waivers\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>\u2026how can our nation expect future lawyers and law firms to be effective in an increasingly tech-enabled world?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Here&#8217;s the pace of change in the world today:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56848 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ExponentialPaceOfChange-DanielChristianSep2016.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"595\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ExponentialPaceOfChange-DanielChristianSep2016.jpg 595w, http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ExponentialPaceOfChange-DanielChristianSep2016-150x97.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 595px) 100vw, 595px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>The exponential pace of change is like warp speed for the U.S.S. Enterprise (Star Trek) or\u00a0the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon (Star Wars).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Yet here&#8217;s the pace that the American Bar Association (<a href=\"http:\/\/@ABAesq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@ABAesq<\/a>) has been taking &#8212; and continues to take &#8212; at least in the area of supporting online-based learning as well as in developing sandboxes\/new methods of improving access to justice (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/A2J?src=hashtag_click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">#A2J<\/a>):<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82662 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Tortoise.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"596\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Tortoise.jpg 900w, http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Tortoise-150x100.jpg 150w, http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Tortoise-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>It\u2019s high time the ABA did their research re: online-based learning and majorly picked up their pace. Undergraduate online-based education started back in the late 1990&#8217;s for crying out loud! (And the number of students taking one or more of their courses completely online has been increasing ever since that time.)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Plus, many law school students are adults who have jobs as well as families.
