IAALS has been monitoring court practices around the country as it relates to policies around virtual proceedings. As part of our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iaals.du.edu\/paths-justice-summit-series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paths to Justice Summit Series<\/a>, IAALS has held several virtual convenings with a diverse group of experts and stakeholders across the justice systems. From those convenings, IAALS published two issue papers,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iaals.du.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/publications\/paths_to_justice_cost_delay_issue_paper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cLearning from this Nationwide Pilot Project\u2014Reducing the Costs and Delays of Civil Litigation\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iaals.du.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/publications\/paths_to_justice_ensuring_access_high_volume_cases_paper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cLearning from this Nationwide Pilot Project\u2014Ensuring Access to Justice in High-Volume Cases.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Both papers focus on lessons learned, upcoming challenges, and areas for further research. In this spirit, we hope to provide a broad perspective on the importance of retaining some of the virtual proceeding processes put in place during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>After many years of urging reform in these cases, we have witnessed incredible innovation and adaptability in the Michigan court system during a crisis. IAALS and other leaders in civil justice reform have urged many of these reforms\u2014such as remote hearings\u2014for years, and we have now seen these innovations happen on the ground.
