9\u00a0<\/span>[a<\/a>]<\/sup>Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom\u00a0for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,\u00a0but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

2\u00a0<\/sup>The people walking in darkness<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>have seen a great light;<\/span><\/span>
\non those living in the land of deep darkness<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>a light has dawned.<\/span><\/span>
\n3\u00a0<\/sup>You have enlarged the nation<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>and increased their joy;<\/span><\/span>
\nthey rejoice before you<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>as people rejoice at the harvest,<\/span><\/span>
\nas warriors rejoice<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>when dividing the plunder.<\/span><\/span>
\n4\u00a0<\/sup>For as in the day of Midian\u2019s defeat,<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>you have shattered<\/span><\/span>
\nthe yoke\u00a0that burdens them,<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>the bar across their shoulders,<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>the rod of their oppressor.<\/span><\/span>
\n5\u00a0<\/sup>Every warrior\u2019s boot used in battle<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>and every garment rolled in blood<\/span><\/span>
\nwill be destined for burning,<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>will be fuel for the fire.<\/span><\/span>
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>For to us a child is born,<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>to us a son is given,<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>and the government\u00a0will be on his shoulders.<\/span><\/span>
\nAnd he will be called<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Wonderful Counselor,\u00a0Mighty God,<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Everlasting\u00a0Father,\u00a0Prince of Peace.<\/span><\/span>
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>Of the greatness of his government\u00a0and peace<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>there will be no end.<\/span><\/span>
\nHe will reign\u00a0on David\u2019s throne<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>and over his kingdom,<\/span><\/span>
\nestablishing and upholding it<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>with justice\u00a0and righteousness<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>from that time on and forever.<\/span><\/span>
\nThe zeal\u00a0of the\u00a0Lord<\/span>\u00a0Almighty<\/span>
