BIM aggregates  individual student blogs and provides a management interface for  teaching staff for marking and tracking student posts.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/bambim\" target=\"_blank\">bit.ly\/bambim<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<h3>What is BIM?<\/h3>\n<p>BIM is an activity module for Moodle that provides the functionality  required to allow:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Students to register feeds.<br \/>\nBe they RSS, ATOM etc and from  whatever source \u2013 usually a public blog.<\/li>\n<li> Students to use that feed to respond to questions set by teaching  staff.<\/li>\n<li> Teaching staff to track progress and, if so desired, mark and  comment on student contributions.<\/li>\n<li> Coordinating staff to track and moderate marking by other staff.<\/li>\n<li> \u201cImport\u201d the marking into the Moodle gradebook.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is <a href=\"http:\/\/davidtjones.wordpress.com\/2010\/07\/20\/an-overview-of-bim\/\" target=\"_blank\">a  video of a presentation<\/a> that gives an overview of BIM, including  showing how it works for staff and students.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier versions of BIM have been used mostly to manage individual  student reflective blogs as described in (<a href=\"http:\/\/davidtjones.wordpress.com\/publications\/blog-aggregation-management-reducing-the-aggravation-of-managing-student-blogging\/\">Jones  and Luck, 2009<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ascilite.org.au\/conferences\/auckland09\/procs\/raeburn.pdf\">Reaburn,  Muldoon and Bookallil, 2009<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/eli\/guidetoblogging\/13558\">ELI  Guide to Blogging<\/a> talks about BAM, an early version of BIM.<\/p>\n<p>Some additional resources about <a href=\"http:\/\/cddu.cqu.edu.au\/index.php\/BIM_User_Resources\" target=\"_blank\">BIM are also  available<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An overview of BIM (video) &#8212; by David Jones [via LearningDigitally.org] A show and tell session around the Moodle plugin BIM.
