However, until recently an inventory of the number or type of secondary and postsecondary credential opportunities in the United States did not exist. This is the third annual report from Credential Engine that attempts to count all these credentials. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The report identifies 967,734 unique credentials in the U.S.<\/strong><\/span> in 16 detailed credential categories across four types<br \/>\nof credential providers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Postsecondary educational institutions\u2014359,713 degrees and certificates<\/li>\n<li>Massive open online course (MOOC) providers\u20149,390 course completion certificates, micro-credentials, and online degrees from foreign universities<\/li>\n<li>Non-academic providers\u2014549,712 badges, course completion certificates, licenses, certifications, and apprenticeships<\/li>\n<li>Secondary schools\u201448,919 diplomas from public and private secondary schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Also see:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-3\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nlet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NLET<\/a> Releases \u201cNewest Economy\u201d Paper<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In\u00a0<em>The Newest Economy: Welcome to the Credential Currency Revolution<\/em>, Gordon Freedman, NLET\u2019s president, examines the discontinuity between high schools, community colleges, career and technical education, and workforce development programs and their alignment and linkages to high demand jobs and careers.
