The drone, flown by\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/the-war-zone\/33756\/customs-and-border-protection-predator-b-drone-appears-over-minneapolis-protests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/futuretodayinstitute.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Daa328e1f564f5fd404f866492%26id%3D40e0ef6285%26e%3Dfdd9b89b5c&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1591381784156000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGchThMMAhw7itf5Pxx4n_c59oZ2w\">U.S. Customs and Border Protection<\/a><\/strong>, is called a Predator, and is a piece of military technology\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/5dzbe3\/customs-and-border-protection-predator-drone-minneapolis-george-floyd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>used<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for identifying and targeting terrorists overseas. Lately, it\u2019s become a more common sight domestically.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Last month, a number of New Yorkers witnessed a drone floating above them, barking orders to follow social distancing\u00a0guidelines. The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/futuretodayinstitute.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=aa328e1f564f5fd404f866492&amp;id=962ce66c5a&amp;e=fdd9b89b5c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/futuretodayinstitute.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Daa328e1f564f5fd404f866492%26id%3D962ce66c5a%26e%3Dfdd9b89b5c&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1591381784156000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH8u1AXXv7tPHehj7m1iGAVRrSPnQ\">mysterious drone<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>wasn\u2019t official police equipment, but rather a privately owned device piloted by a man\u00a0named Xavier Arthur in Queens, who was frustrated that people weren\u2019t following stay-at-home orders. He\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/05\/23\/style\/drones-coronavirus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>claimed<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to represent the \u201cAnti-Covid-19 Volunteer Drone Task Force.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">It&#8217;s not an isolated incident. During the outbreak, drones have been used extensively to monitor residents and encourage them to stay indoors, to inspect traffic stops and hospitals, and to spray cities with disinfectants. In<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ts403PPfIOk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paris<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymotion.com\/video\/x7tapsq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mumbai<\/strong><\/a>, they\u2019re patrolling social distancing violators. In China, a video clip went viral,<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-china-health-drones\/drone-on-virus-patrol-busts-chinese-villagers-mahjong-game-idUSKBN1ZX0MX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">showing a drone<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>breaking up a mahjong game\u2014residents had defied local orders that they\u00a0stay indoors. Drones with infrared cameras also\u00a0allegedly flew\u00a0overhead and checked for people with\u00a0fevers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Advanced drones can pinpoint certain behaviors in crowds from high altitudes, recognize and automatically follow targets, and communicate with each other or to command centers on the ground with remarkable precision and low latency.
