Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/07\/07\/us\/politics\/ice-drivers-licenses-facial-recognition.html?action=click&amp;module=inline&amp;pgtype=Homepage\">are using<\/a>\u00a0facial recognition technology to scan state driver\u2019s license databases without citizens\u2019 knowing. Detroit aspires to use facial recognition for round-the-clock\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/07\/08\/us\/detroit-facial-recognition-cameras.html?module=inline&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter_axiosam&amp;stream=top\">monitoring<\/a>. Americans are losing\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/10\/15\/opinion\/facial-recognition-police.html?rref=collection%2Fseriescollection%2Fnew-york-times-privacy-project&amp;action=click&amp;contentCollection=opinion&amp;region=stream&amp;module=inline&amp;version=latest&amp;contentPlacement=1&amp;pgtype=collection\">due-process protections<\/a>, and even law-abiding citizens cannot confidently engage in\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2394838\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free association, free movement and free speech<\/a>\u00a0without fear of being\u00a0tracked.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/s\/trustissues\/user-agreements-are-betraying-you-19db7135441f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Notice and choice<\/a>\u201d has been an abysmal failure.
