School administrators are now reaching for security tech that keeps a constant, increasingly sophisticated eye on halls and classrooms. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>One drawback: a major blow to student privacy.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"StoryBody__paragraph--2-Doz\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Background:\u00a0<\/strong>Schools are\u00a0<a class=\"StoryBody__link--10w8x\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2018\/10\/teacher-union-school-shooting-technology-safety\/572113\/\">experimenting wildly<\/a>\u00a0with technology in order to secure students, deploying facial recognition, license plate readers, microphones for gunshot detection and even patrol robots.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"hidden-a5845755-9c68-480a-a4d6-5e075a4d17b4\" class=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"true\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>From DSC:<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\">Based upon my experiences of attending a variety of public schools, I can&#8217;t help but think that this is truly a sad day indeed for the United States of America. This bumbs me out big time. Progress? No&#8230;I don&#8217;t think so.
