Every December,\u00a0Education Next<\/em>\u00a0releases a list of the most popular articles we published over the course of the year based on readership.<\/p>\n

The article that generated the most interest this year was one that looked at\u00a0the policy of inclusion<\/a>, or mainstreaming, in special education.\u00a0A response<\/a>\u00a0to that article was our third most popular article of the year.<\/p>\n

Some other popular articles were studies finding that\u00a0teachers\u2019 impact on non-cognitive skills<\/a>\u00a0is 10 times more predictive of students\u2019 longer-term success than teachers\u2019 impact on test scores; an\u00a0analysis of the effectiveness of instructional coaching\u00a0<\/a>for teachers instead of regular professional development; and a look at whether\u00a0teacher preparation programs can be evaluated<\/a>\u00a0based on the learning gains of their graduates\u2019 students.<\/p>\n

Other articles collected data on\u00a0public support for higher teacher pay<\/a>\u00a0and greater school spending, the\u00a0decline in private school attendance<\/a>\u00a0by middle school families, and\u00a0whether states are lowering<\/a>\u00a0their proficiency standards.<\/p>\n
