{"id":62589,"date":"2018-02-10T13:06:13","date_gmt":"2018-02-10T18:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=62589"},"modified":"2018-02-10T13:06:13","modified_gmt":"2018-02-10T18:06:13","slug":"w-the-workforce-predicted-to-have-upwards-of-50-of-us-being-contingent-workers-are-we-preparing-our-students-for-this-new-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2018\/02\/10\/w-the-workforce-predicted-to-have-upwards-of-50-of-us-being-contingent-workers-are-we-preparing-our-students-for-this-new-world\/","title":{"rendered":"W\/ the workforce predicted to have upwards of 50% of us being contingent workers, are we preparing our students for this new world?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">With some predictions saying that the workforce is going to be composed of upwards of ~50% of us being<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=contingent+workers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contingent workers<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>,<\/strong> (I&#8217;ve already seen figures around <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/05\/24\/news\/economy\/gig-economy-intuit\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mid 30&#8217;s<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/elainepofeldt\/2015\/05\/25\/shocker-40-of-workers-now-have-contingent-jobs-says-u-s-government\/#5a88cdf614be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">even 40%<\/a>), the question I have is:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Are we teaching students how to protect themselves, how to sell themselves, how to sell their businesses, how to plan financially, etc.?\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Consider this article:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.invisionapp.com\/blog\/freelance-design-contracts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11 mistakes freelancers make with design contracts<\/a> &#8212; from invisionapp.com by Guillaume Leverdier<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Would our students know about these types of mistakes?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Also, it seems to me that higher education should be helping students &#8220;future proof&#8221; themselves &#8212; or at least as much as possible. One of the values higher education should be bringing to the table is to identify which jobs are going to be around for the next 5-10 years and which ones aren&#8217;t. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Along these lines, lifelong learning and learning how to learn are becoming increasingly important.
