The University\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/registrar\/records\/certs\/digital.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digital Diploma Pilot Program<\/a> allowed a select cohort of students to receive both a paper diploma and a digital diploma anchored to the blockchain. Digital diplomas are encoded using the open-source <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blockcerts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blockcerts<\/a> standard, which was developed by Learning Machine Technologies and the MIT Media Lab.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Speaking to <a href=\"http:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2017\/mit-debuts-secure-digital-diploma-using-bitcoin-blockchain-technology-1017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MIT News<\/a>, Registrar and Senior Associate Mary Callahan said, \u201cFrom the beginning, one of our primary motivations has been to empower students to be the curators of their own credentials.
