{"id":58334,"date":"2017-01-23T17:33:33","date_gmt":"2017-01-23T22:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=58334"},"modified":"2017-01-23T17:33:33","modified_gmt":"2017-01-23T22:33:33","slug":"a-virtual-reality-labmakerspace-for-youth-in-china-very-cool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2017\/01\/23\/a-virtual-reality-labmakerspace-for-youth-in-china-very-cool\/","title":{"rendered":"A virtual reality lab\/makerspace (for youth) in China &#8212; very cool!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"page-title\" class=\"title\">ISNS students embrace learning in a world of virtual reality &#8212; from by<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\"><em>Excerpt<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> (emphasis DSC):<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"v2-processed\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To give students the skills needed to thrive in an ever more tech-centred world, the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen (ISNS) is one of the world\u2019s first educational facilities now making instruction in virtual reality (VR) and related tools a key part of the curriculum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v2-processed\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Building on a successful pilot programme last summer in Virtual Reality, 3D art and animation, the intention is to let students in various age groups experiment with the latest emerging technologies, while at the same time unleashing their creativity, curiosity and passion for learning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v2-processed\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To this end, the school has set up a special VR innovation lab, conceived as a space for exploration, design and interdisciplinary collaboration involving a number of different subject teachers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v2-processed\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Using relevant software and materials, students learn to create high-quality digital content and to design \u201cexperiences\u201d for VR platforms. In this <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>\u201cVR Lab makerspace\u201d &#8211; a place offering the necessary tools, resources and support &#8211; they get to apply concepts and theories learned in the classroom, develop practical skills, document their progress, and share what they have learned with classmates and other members of the tech education community.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"v2-processed\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">As a next logical step, she is also looking to develop contacts with a number of the commercial makerspaces which have sprung up in Shenzhen.
