A topic that remains hotly debated all over the world. Especially now, as we struggle to find our footing as our futures hurtle towards us, faster and more profoundly different than ever before.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">What changes do existing schools and colleges need to make to better prepare students for the trends we already see? Together with those \u201cweak signals\u201d that suggest other, possible futures? In \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/reason.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/18\/chicago-is-making-coding-education-manda\" target=\"_blank\">trying to adapt education for what the American economy is evolving into<\/a>,\u201d is mandating \u201ccoding classes\u201d part of the answer? \u00a0Are we doing enough to take into account <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techinasia.com\/coders-robot-revolution-coming\" target=\"_blank\">contrarian perspectives like this one<\/a>? Who gets to decide what the purpose of education should <em>be, <\/em>in any case?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">These are just some of the questions everyone\u2013from policy makers to parents, academics to students themselves\u2013need to think about.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Intrigued as to what the global futurist and foresight communities might have in mind, I posed them the following question:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong>If there was one thing I could change in education to better prepare students for the future of work, it would be\u2026<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The twenty women that responded to my call are either professional futurists or apply foresight in their roles as leaders in global firms and consultancies, think tanks and foundations. They\u2019re from countries as geographically disperse as Australia, Egypt, Germany, India, New Zealand, Norway, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(If you\u2019re wondering why I only asked women, it was a deliberate move to broaden commentary on \u201cour futures,\u201d so people don\u2019t think it\u2019s the sole purview of older, white men. Also, because I believe women\u2019s natural inclinations toward relationships and collaboration, communities and mutual support,\u00a0<em>are\u00a0<\/em>the future!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>One example\/answer:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u201c\u2026to put more emphasis on HOW students will contribute, rather than WHAT their expertise will be, by helping them answer these three questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">How do I most want to contribute to something larger than myself, aka my\u00a0\u2018mission in life\u2019?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">In what work environment will I be able to make the meaningful contributions I\u2019m capable of?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">How do I interact with others? What might derail my ambitions, dreams, and wishes?
