More and more, employees are producing content and\/or finding it outside the internal Learning &amp; Development groups.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Having worked in Fortune 500 companies for 15 years, I experienced first hand the need to keep growing and learning &#8212; and that the employee ultimately needs to own their own learning.\u00a0 It&#8217;s in the organizations&#8217; and employees&#8217; best interests to have employees tap into multiple streams of content in order to keep learning and growing. The L&amp;D Groups are still very important, but given the pace of change &#8212; and disruption &#8212; one simply can&#8217;t afford to have someone else be in charge of one&#8217;s learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpt from Learning TRENDS\u00a0 #911<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> (emphasis DSC)<\/span><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Learner as Content Producer?<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">More of the learning consumed by learners has been created, compiled or produced by sources other than internal Learning &amp; Development groups.<\/span> <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">We have been surveying a significant shift in the origin of content used by employees of our organizations.<\/span> <\/strong>Increasingly, we are seeing these as the source of content:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Search Found Content.<\/li>\n<li>Public Content Collections &#8211; TED Talks, YouTube, Others.<\/li>\n<li>Peer Created Content or Collaborations.<\/li>\n<li>Curated Content by Learners.<\/li>\n<li>3rd Party Content from External Providers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The &#8220;meta&#8221; trend is that organization is building less and less of the content in a formal designer mode. In fact, the Learner is often becoming a &#8220;Learning Producer&#8221;,<\/span> through their own assembly and selection of content from a wider and wider set of resources.
