{"id":5085,"date":"2010-05-12T18:47:50","date_gmt":"2010-05-12T22:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=5085"},"modified":"2010-05-12T18:48:58","modified_gmt":"2010-05-12T22:48:58","slug":"att-infusion-to-fund-k-12-professional-development-for-mobile-learning-from-the-journal-by-david-nagel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2010\/05\/12\/att-infusion-to-fund-k-12-professional-development-for-mobile-learning-from-the-journal-by-david-nagel\/","title":{"rendered":"AT&#038;T infusion to fund K-12 professional development for mobile learning &#8212; from The Journal by David Nagel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thejournal.com\/articles\/2010\/05\/12\/att-infusion-to-fund-k-12-professional-development-for-mobile-learning.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">AT&amp;T infusion to fund K-12 professional development for mobile learning<\/a><\/strong> &#8212; from The Journal by David Nagel<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">An infusion of nearly $2 million has been awarded to <strong>Abilene Christian University<\/strong> to help it expand its mobile learning programs, including a K-12 teacher professional development initiative focused on the use of mobile technologies in teaching.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">ACU, a private institution in Texas, launched its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acu.edu\/technology\/mobilelearning\/\" target=\"_blank\">ConnectED<\/a> mobile learning initiative  back in 2008 and currently <a href=\"http:\/\/campustechnology.com\/articles\/2010\/01\/27\/pioneering-mobile-learning.aspx?sc_lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">centers it around Apple&#8217;s iPhone and iPod touch devices<\/a>.   The overall goals of the initiative include fostering greater  engagement of students and enhancing teaching and research through  technology, as well as building connections between ACU and its  community and other academic institutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The  $1.8 million  AT&amp;T grant&#8211;being provided by AT&amp;T  subsidiaries and affiliates&#8211;will help build the infrastructure and  provide financing and resources to support three programs operating  under the  umbrella of the mobile learning initiative: the K-12  Professional Development Institute, the Mobile Learning Research  Program, and the AT&amp;T Learning Studio.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AT&amp;T infusion to fund K-12 professional development for mobile learning &#8212; from The Journal by David Nagel An infusion of nearly $2 million has been awarded to Abilene Christian University to help it expand its mobile learning programs, including a K-12 teacher professional development initiative focused on the use of mobile technologies in teaching.
