HoloLens appears to use a Virtual Retinal Display (VRD).<\/p>\n

So, what\u2019s VRD, you ask?<\/p>\n

VRD mirrors how the human eye works. The back of the eye receives light and converts it into signals for your brain. Images are projected directly onto the retina with the back of the eye used as a screen effectively.<\/p>\n

The result is a more true-to-life image than the \u2018ghostly transparent superimposed representation\u2019 (as Gizmodo reporter Sean Hollister describes) we\u2019ve seen with\u00a0AR eyewear before. Hollister details<\/a> his experience of Microsoft\u2019s prototype as \u201cstanding in a room filled<\/em> with objects. Posters covering the walls. And yet somehow\u2014without blocking my vision\u2014the HoloLens was making those objects almost totally invisible.\u201d He states, \u201cSome of the very shiniest things in the room\u2014the silver handle of a pitcher, if I recall correctly\u2014managed to reflect enough light into my eyes to penetrate the illusion.\u201d<\/div>\n
