It\u2019s something that will make a dent in the future, that is worth pursuing though it might not work. In the end, the results could be dramatic&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>What are you changing and how will the world look like after you change it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Where can we make the most initial impact in the least amount of time?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Unlike incremental ideas, <em>really big ideas<\/em> have no clear business case; only potential. <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And you have to find that potential in a very disciplined way.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Bottom line:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Innovation requires a different kind of leadership. One that understands that <strong>innovation requires trial and error.<\/strong> The rhetoric of innovation is often about fun and creativity, but the reality is that <strong>innovation is hard work and can be a very taxing, uncomfortable process, both emotionally and intellectually.<\/strong> We can learn valuable innovation lessons from Google<\/em>, a true innovator, on what it takes to create the conditions for projects like these to happen and become real.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42055\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ThinkBiggerYet-DanielChristian-August282013.jpg\" alt=\"ThinkBiggerYet-DanielChristian-August282013\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" border=\"0\" srcset=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ThinkBiggerYet-DanielChristian-August282013.jpg 792w, http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ThinkBiggerYet-DanielChristian-August282013-150x115.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\">Institutions of higher education have developed some <span style=\"color: #800000;\">great products and services out there for creating solid scholars, thinkers, future citizens, and much more; however, such programs are increasingly out of reach for many people (or they come with a crushing weight that stays on a graduate&#8217;s back for years to come).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">So I&#8217;d like to see those of us working within higher education take some lessons from the likes of Google:\u00a0 It&#8217;s time for some serious innovation and experimentation.\u00a0 Such a shift requires massive <em>cultural changes<\/em> throughout many of our institutions of higher education (not all, but many).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">We need to continue to provide quality products and services, but at <em>much more<\/em> affordable prices. What we have now is NOT working for many people. It&#8217;s simply not working.<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Towards that end, it&#8217;s time for TRIMTAB Groups, experimentation, and innovation throughout higher education.<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">NOTE:<br \/>\nWith the affordances that come from technology, it isn&#8217;t always possible to put $$ figures on things like ROI&#8217;s.\u00a0 To see this immediately, t<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">hink of the difficulty in trying to nail down any sort of accurate ROI from <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">your email system or from your voicemail system or from your networking infrastructure.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think it can be done. This is where bold, visionary, informed thinking comes into play.
