[Christian]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/ibm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42201\" alt=\"IBM-WatsonAtWork-Sept2013\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/IBM-WatsonAtWork-Sept2013.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" border=\"0\" srcset=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/IBM-WatsonAtWork-Sept2013.jpg 720w, http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/IBM-WatsonAtWork-Sept2013-150x101.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>From DSC:<\/em><br \/>\nIBM Watson continues to expand into different disciplines\/areas, which currently include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Healthcare<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Finance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Customer Service<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">But Watson is also entering the<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/markfidelman\/2013\/09\/04\/ibms-watson-set-to-revolutionize-marketing\/\" target=\"_blank\">marketing <\/a><span style=\"color: #800000;\">and<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/s\/article\/9236373\/IBM_s_Watson_supercomputer_goes_to_college_for_extra_smarts\" target=\"_blank\">education\/research<\/a><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> realms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>I see a Watson-type-of-tool as being a key ingredient for future MOOCs and the best chance for MOOCs to morph into something very powerful indeed<\/strong> <strong>&#8212; offloading the majority of the workload to computers\/software\/intelligent tutoring\/learning agents, while at the same time allowing students to connect with each other and\/or to Subject Matter Experts (SME&#8217;s) as appropriate.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The price of education could hopefully come way down <\/strong>&#8212; depending upon the costs involved with licensing Watson or a similar set of technologies &#8212; as IBM could spread out their costs to multiple institutions\/organizations.\u00a0 This vision represents another important step towards the &#8220;Walmart of Education&#8221; that continues to develop before our eyes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Taking this even one step further, I see this system being available to us on our mobile devices as well as in our living rooms<\/strong> &#8212; as the telephone, the television, and the computer continue to converge.\u00a0 Blended learning on steroids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What would make this really powerful would be to provide: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The ability to <strong>create narratives\/stories around content<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">To<strong> feed streams of content into Watson <\/strong>for students to tap into<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Methods of <strong>mining data<\/strong> and using that to tweak algorithms, etc. to improve the tools\/learning opportunities<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Such an architecture could be applied towards <strong>lifelong learning opportunities<\/strong> &#8212; addressing what we now know as K-12, higher education, and corporate training\/development.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30701\" alt=\"The Living [Class] Room -- by Daniel Christian -- July 2012 -- a second device used in conjunction with a Smart\/Connected TV\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/The-Living-Class-Room-Daniel-S-Christian-July-2012.jpg\" width=\"616\" height=\"482\" srcset=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/The-Living-Class-Room-Daniel-S-Christian-July-2012.jpg 616w, http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/The-Living-Class-Room-Daniel-S-Christian-July-2012-150x117.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; From DSC: IBM Watson continues to expand into different disciplines\/areas, which currently include: Healthcare Finance Customer Service But Watson is also entering the marketing and education\/research realms.
