It\u2019s a methodology called the \u201clean start-up,\u201d and it favors <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">experimentation<\/span> <\/strong>over elaborate planning, customer feedback over intuition, and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>iterative design<\/strong> <\/span>over traditional \u201cbig design up front\u201d development. Although the methodology is just a few years old, its concepts\u2014such as \u201cminimum viable product\u201d and \u201cpivoting\u201d\u2014have quickly taken root in the start-up world, and business schools have already begun adapting their curricula to teach them.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\">This fits into my thinking\/recommendation that each institution of higher education should create a much smaller, more nimble group within itself &#8212; whose goal is to experiment, pivot, adapt, etc. &#8212; in order to find out what&#8217;s working and what&#8217;s not working.\u00a0 It&#8217;s why I have categories and tags for words like &#8220;experimentation,&#8221; &#8220;staying relevant,&#8221; &#8220;reinvent,&#8221; &#8220;innovation,&#8221; &#8220;surviving,&#8221; and &#8220;disruption.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The trick is\/will be how NOT to be a commodity &#8211;what&#8217;s going to differentiate your college or university?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Excerpt (emphasis DSC): But recently an important countervailing force has emerged, one that can make the process of starting a company less risky.
