{"id":39393,"date":"2013-04-25T16:39:31","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T20:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=39393"},"modified":"2013-04-25T16:41:44","modified_gmt":"2013-04-25T20:41:44","slug":"the-it-conversation-we-should-be-having-stikeleather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2013\/04\/25\/the-it-conversation-we-should-be-having-stikeleather\/","title":{"rendered":"The IT conversation we should be having [Stikeleather]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.hbr.org\/cs\/2013\/04\/corporate_it_and_the_conversat.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The IT conversation we should be having<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from HBR.org by Jim Stikeleather<\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpt (<span style=\"color: #800000;\">emphasis DSC<\/span>):<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is a conversation about the increasing importance of information technology and the role it must assume in every enterprise, regardless of size, industry or geography.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Our observations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CEOs are demanding more visible value from their CIOs, in terms of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>generating revenue, gaining new customers, and increasing customer satisfaction.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Increasingly, the CIO and IT must be seen less as developing and deploying technology, and more as a source of innovation and transformation that delivers business value, leveraging technology instead of directly delivering it.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>The CIO must be responsible and accountable if technology enables, facilitates or accelerates competition that the C-suite didn&#8217;t see coming, or allows the enterprise to miss opportunities because the C-suite did not understand the possibilities technology offered.<\/li>\n<li>CIOs today must adapt or risk being marginalized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From DSC:<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> This is critical in the higher ed space as well!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The majority of the higher education industry still isn&#8217;t getting it &#8212; we are operating in a brand new ball game where technology must be used <em>strategically<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong> It&#8217;s not just about building and maintaining the infrastructure\/plumbing anymore (though that is extremely important as well).
