{"id":35541,"date":"2012-12-17T11:35:22","date_gmt":"2012-12-17T16:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=35541"},"modified":"2012-12-17T12:29:47","modified_gmt":"2012-12-17T17:29:47","slug":"some-serious-field-trips-coming-our-way-in-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2012\/12\/17\/some-serious-field-trips-coming-our-way-in-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Some serious field trips coming our way in the future!"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Using devices like these, students of all ages might be able to take some serious field trips:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.doublerobotics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"doublerobotics dot com -- wheels for your iPad\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/double-robotics-wheels-for-your-iPad-Sept2012.jpg\" width=\"712\" height=\"891\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suitabletech.com\/beam\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"Remote presence system called Beam -- from Suitable Technologies - September 2012\" src=\"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Beam-from-suitable-techs-9-28-12.jpg\" width=\"590\" height=\"884\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>For example&#8230;implementing and leveraging such a network of remote-controlled devices*, students could:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tour the Louvre in Paris<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Be backstage at a Broadway musical or checking out a live performance of Macbeth<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Watch a filming of a National Geographic Special in the Fiji Islands<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Attend an IEEE International Conference in Taiwan<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Attend an Educause Conference or a Sloan C event to get further knowledge about how to maximize your time studying online or within a hybrid environment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tour The Exploratorium in San Francisco<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tour the Museum of Science &amp; Industry in Chicago<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Be a fly on the wall during a Senate hearing\/debate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">See how changes are made in the assembly lines at a Ford plant<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Or perhaps, when a student wheels their device to a particular area &#8212; such as the front row of a conference, the signal automatically switches to the main speaker\/event (keynote speakers, panel, etc. via machine-to-machine communications)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Invite guest speakers into a class: pastors, authors, poets, composers, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Work with local\/virtual teams on how to heighten public awareness re: a project that deals with sustainability<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Virtually head to another country to immerse themselves in another country&#8217;s language &#8212; and, vice versa, help them learn the students&#8217; native languages<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">For accountability &#8212; as well as for setting aside intentional time to process the information &#8212; students would update their own blogs about what they experienced, heard, and saw.\u00a0 They would need to include at least one image, along with the text they write about their experience.\u00a0 Or perhaps a brief\/edited piece of digital video or audio of some of the statements that they heard that really resonated with them, or that they had further questions on.\u00a0 The default setting on such postings would be to be kept private, but if the teacher and the student felt that a posting could\/should be made public, a quick setting could be checked to publish it out there for others to see\/experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Real world. Engaging.
