{"id":26867,"date":"2012-02-06T17:55:36","date_gmt":"2012-02-06T22:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=26867"},"modified":"2012-03-01T11:28:06","modified_gmt":"2012-03-01T16:28:06","slug":"musings-re-stopping-the-brain-drain-of-the-u-s-economy-npr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2012\/02\/06\/musings-re-stopping-the-brain-drain-of-the-u-s-economy-npr\/","title":{"rendered":"Musings re: &#8220;Stopping the &#8216;brain drain&#8217; of the U.S. economy&#8221; [NPR]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2012\/02\/05\/146434854\/stopping-the-brain-drain-of-the-u-s-economy?sc=17&amp;f=1001\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Stopping the &#8216;brain drain&#8217; of the U.S. economy<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from NPR<\/p>\n<p><em>Excerpts:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;The problem is that when you&#8217;ve got 20 to 30 percent of some of the top talent in this country going into a sector that is not necessarily contributing to economic and social productivity,&#8221; he says. &#8220;That&#8217;s a problem for the country at large and it&#8217;s something that we should all be concerned about.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Economist Paul Kedrosky with the Kauffman Foundation says elite schools sending a bigger share of their graduates into finance and consulting is not new; they&#8217;ve been doing it for at least two decades.\u00a0 Kedrosky tells NPR&#8217;s Raz that what&#8217;s different now is that those students have essentially used their talents to grow the financial sector in ways that are unhealthy for the overall economy.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>From DSC:<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Some relevant scripture comes to my mind &#8212; which I, myself, also have to reckon with (these are hard teachings, especially in this day in age&#8230;but on second thought, in <\/em>any<em> age for us humans)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+6%3A21&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Matthew 6:21: (NIV)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span>For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+16:13&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Luke 16:13 (NIV)<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span> No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+7:13&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 7:13 (NIV)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span>Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+4%3A12&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?version=NIV&amp;search=Psalm+33:4-5\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Psalm 33:4-5 (NIV)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cFor the word of the LORD is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.
