{"id":2257,"date":"2010-03-06T16:02:52","date_gmt":"2010-03-06T21:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/?p=2257"},"modified":"2010-03-06T16:08:47","modified_gmt":"2010-03-06T21:08:47","slug":"enabling-worldwide-learning-the-multi-versity-ray-schroeder-via-jim-vanides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danielschristian.com\/learning-ecosystems\/2010\/03\/06\/enabling-worldwide-learning-the-multi-versity-ray-schroeder-via-jim-vanides\/","title":{"rendered":"Enabling worldwide learning &#8212; The &#8220;Multi-versity&#8221;  &#8212; Ray Schroeder via Jim Vanides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ENABLING WORLDWIDE LEARNING &#8211; THE &#8220;MULTI-VERSITY&#8221; &#8212; <\/strong>from <a title=\"multi-versity\" href=\"http:\/\/www.communities.hp.com\/online\/blogs\/highered\/archive\/2010\/03\/05\/changing-the-education-equation-part-3-my-reflections-on-the-2010-hp-innovation-in-education-worldwide-summit.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Changing the Education Equation (part 3) &#8211; My Reflections on the 2010 HP Innovation in Education Worldwide Summit<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This hybrid and distributed approach we used in our summit has wonderful (and challenging!) implications for how we think about &#8220;the learning institution&#8221; (universities, colleges, school systems), and there are many institutions already seeing the &#8220;disruption&#8221; at the end of the tunnel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Ray Schroeder, one of our presenters on the panel, &#8220;Learning without Limits&#8230;&#8221; sent me a post-summit email in which he shared <span style=\"color: #800000;\">one example of the changing education institution, which he calls the <strong>&#8220;Multi-versity&#8221;:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;following on Michael Horn&#8217;s predictions that community colleges and online universities are the delivery platforms in higher education today and tomorrow, [I believe] that the &#8220;<em>day-after-tomorrow<\/em>&#8221; will be <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">the advent of the <em>multi-versity. <\/em>That is, colleges and universities collaborating in offering a vast range of interconnected classes from which students will select to fulfill\u00a0degree requirements that allow for nearly unlimited emphases and specializations.<\/span><\/strong> The motivation for these multi-versity collaborations will be both push and pull &#8211; the economy is pushing higher education to become more efficient through sharing resources and the students are pulling universities to be more responsive to their individual needs for access to a wide range of classes.\u00a0 This, I believe is the true potential of [Google] Wave as a Web 2.0 platform, to enable and facilitate <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">inter-institutional class collaborations that provide a diversity of perspectives and a rich breadth of information sharing.&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em> (emphasis DSC)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>From DSC:<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t mention this to support or plug Google Wave.
